Comments on Books Research Matters

The Book Research Matters, was just ideal for the class. I am keeping my copy and not reselling it, because I am sure I will need it in the future. The book was very affordable especially as students are not very rich. The book has everything required for the 102 class.

#Reflections on Final Paper

I love my research topic. Social Networking, I am glad I chose the topic. Writing research papers is not my favorite thing to do, but after taking this class, I wouldn't have a problem in the future writing research papers. I have mastered MLA format and I know about block quotation now. This paper will help me in my senior year, because I know how to begin a paper, chose my topic, make rough drafts and final drafts. we learnt the differences with paraphrasing and coherence in a paragraph. Those were very important things we were thought in the class, and I am glad I know all those steps now. I give all credits to my English teacher Wendy Warren Austin for being a very good teacher of English language. I would take her again if I get another chance.

#Favorite Substantive Magazine

My Favorite Substantive was Wired. It took me a while to make this decision. But After careful observation, I realized that, the Wired magazine is based on science and technology. I have always been an electronics person. I love new technology, and being a Management Information Systems major, my interest has increased when it comes to technology. I love being ahead or at least up to date with the latest trend in technology. Wired happens to be the magazine. It is easy to browse through, the background color is user friendly, and it has a lot of news on science and technology. I have booked marked it as one of my favorite web magazines.

#Research Topics

For my research paper I had a couple of topics I wanted to talk about.

  1. Democracy (Demonstration of craze)
  2. Teenage Pregnancy
  3. Social Networking.
Democracy: For my first idea, I felt the need to discuss politics and democracy in the beautiful continent Africa. After Obtaining freedom from Colonial Powers years and years ago, some African Nations still have one leader or a group of people or tribe dominating and ruling the people. A lot of leaders hate to leave when they get elected to power. Corruption lingers within the cabinet of many African presidents. Money is being mismanaged and the masses are crying. Hungry for change and better leadership, people begin to protest, tribal wars and riots still occurs and persists in African Nations.

Teenage Pregnancy: Another issue I would have loved to write and research about is the rate of teenage pregnancy in our society today, especially in developed countries like England and United states of America. The rate of young females who get pregnant at a very young age is at a high. I would have discussed how this can be reduced, so our young teenagers can go to school and get educated, instead of being young mothers, babies having babies.

Social Networking: This topic was my final decision. I decided to write about social networking in organisations and institutions, because social networking changed the world and how people talk. On my paper, I highlighted the advantages and effects of Facebook and twitter and other social networks and how it have helped various organisations and businesses, giving them a new voice and how to reach out to their own targeted audience.

Blog #6 Article on "College: A Time of Wonder."

Robert Bonfiglio College: A Time Wonder

Bonfiglio, Robert. "College: A Time of Wonder." About Campus (May 2006): 27-29. Print.

Robert A. Bonfiglio writes about college students and their experience, both positive and negative when enrolling in their first college year. He goes on to say, fear, worry, concern, alienation and anxiousness are the common emotions majority of new students feel prior to becoming freshmen. With the help of first year experience programs, colleges and institutions are able to examine those issues. The emphasis of first year experience is typically about the campus environment outside the classroom such as hate crimes, STD’s, diversity, alcohol, sex, and assault. Overall Robert A Bonfiglio points out that all students whether you be disabled or minority, male or female or an adult student should be fore warned about their college environment.

Experience With Research Papers

What I like is how I can chose my own topic. I didn't have this opportunity with my previous research papers. On one of my previous research papers I had to watch four movies and read four books, It was a pain in the neck though interesting. It was fun watching the movies from the early 90's about black popular culture, one of the book I had to read was Mark Anthony Neal's Soul Babies, black popular culture and the post-soul aesthetic. I learnt about actresses like Palm Grier and how she made her way to the top of the movie industry, from getting small rolls to front cover magazines. It also covered the music industry and Hip-Hop. It was a deep and long research paper of Ten pages.

I also watched movies like super fly, the aim of the research paper was to show us how movie directors and producers exploited the African American Popular culture in the blaxploitation era for profits. Most movies that came out in that era were about Pimps, hustlers and drugs in the poor African American neighborhoods.

I wrote another paper for my Health and Weight Training class, in this research paper we were to chose any topic from a health article and discuss the pros and cons of the article. Also explain how it affects the University and my fellow class mates. I chose a health topic on the use of marijuana. On this article, I was worried about what the professor would think, but when I got my paper back, I scored a hundred percent with a very good remark. I think i scored that high because I was allowed to pick my own topic.

Blog #3 Exercise 1.1

Last semester all I had in my room was my Laptop, 22 Inches Television, a Cable Network with the Internet. You will find me on twitter and Facebook. I love social networking, I believe social networking is the new television, everyone is talking, reporting and posting daily activities of personal and world issues on their Facebook and twitter accounts.

I have my Blackberry smart phone which has all these interesting applications on it, twitter, Facebook and Internet access and a lot of amazing applications. News, emails and messages get to me by the second when people communicate, posting messages on Facebook or twitter. Whether fact or rumor I still know what is going on and trending around the globe. I was stuck on my Laptop and hardly ever watched telly, So this semester I replaced the 22 inches TV with a 32' and bought my self a Sony Play Station 3 and now the boys room is complete.

I work at the Technology and Communications department as a student, we rebuild bad computers and upgrade them for professors and students, I have learnt a lot from working there and this has increased my interest for computers and technology. We are dependent on these machines, the world economy and businesses would shut down if the internet and computers were taken away from us.
